Yesterday we had the graduation ceremony of our final year students now happy BSc graduates!!
It was great to learn that two of them were awarded prizes for their projects conducted in the lab.
Melissa Hart was awarded with the GlaxoSmithKline Foundation Prize to the best project in Biochemistry. Here you can see a happy and relaxed Melissa after the ceremony enjoying her well deserved triumph.
Melissa did her project under the supervision of Dr Manuel Salvador. She developed a CRISPRi system for Pseudomonas putida as part of the contribution of our lab to P4SB the EU’s most ambitious project to solve the problems derived from plastics accumulation in the environment. Melissa is about to start her PhD on the pathogenicity of Plasmodium in the prestigious London School of Hygiene and Tropical Diseases.
Margarita Vryonidou won the prize to best project in Microbiology. Here is Margarita about to collect her diploma during the graduation ceremony.
Margarita’s project was supervised by Elizabeth Saunders and Dr Claudio Avignone-Rossa. She took part in the optimisation of culture conditions and strain storage for production of butanol in Clostridium.
We wish them the best of luck in their future endeavours. We are also grateful for the hard work and the contribution to the excellent atmosphere in the lab. Once again well done and congratulations on the success!!
